It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe and is known for its controversy Red light district, which consists of roads and alleys containing one roomed apartments rented by working girls who offer their services from behind a window or glass door.

Amsterdam has a number of fabulous markets selling all manner of goods, including fresh produce and antiques. Particularly recommended is Waterlooplein, the city's main flea market.

  2. An Essential Dutch Experience: Explore the canals and historical buildings like the locals, on a bike but always remember to take a map with you or join a bike tour.
  3. Van Gogh Museum: Visit one of the most popular museums in Europe, opened in 1973. The museum consists of over 200 paintings and 500 drawing by the famous artist.
